Ideas for change in taxation are another example of the inconsistent policy in the financial and economic sphere. A policy that erodes the public and business environment and does not create conditions for long-term planning and forecasting.
"Among the great virtues of every nation is thrift. A virtue that is very difficult to cultivate and must be protected and encouraged, because it is the basis of the prosperity of society. This virtue was dealt a serious blow with the speculative behavior of some banks. The peak of this destructive behavior was the vague and deeply unclear actions of the BNB and the political-financial precedent Corpbank. An additional blow is now being prepared to deal the shaken trust of business and society with the tax on interest on deposits – tax"which politicians promised to gradually eliminate, and in recent days these same politicians have talked about increasing it", stated the BSK.
In their position, it is also said that the mistrust of Bulgarians towards the incorrect behavior of banks and politicians, as well as the instilled fear that deposits are not guaranteed, are counterproductive for the development of the economy.
"Let's not forget that Bulgaria is part of the EU and the Bulgarian depositor can easily direct his savings to other European countries or take more extreme decisions. The state's feeling that it can significantly increase budget revenues from the taxation of deposits – a decision not only unprofessional, but also naive. A significant increase in budget revenues can be expected by creating conditions for mobilizing this financial resource for the development of the economy. A jump in basic budget revenues can be achieved only by increasing turnover in the economy, through expanded consumption, through legal and social security, etc.
"Society benefits and is enriched when deposits are converted into financing for business ventures, when enterprising people take the risk of discovering and maintaining jobs, to create added value. Entrepreneurship is another important virtue that in our country is not only not encouraged, but on the contrary - it is suppressed and limited. The economy is driven by those who have ideas and, more importantly - have the courage to implement them. Others who do not have ideas or the courage to take risks save, but their role in society is no less important. Because their savings create the opportunity for good ideas to gain trust through credit resources. Therefore, we do not find any logic in trying to punish them," the BIA stated in its position.
In conclusion, the chamber addresses the Bulgarian politicians with the words: "Do not kill the virtues of the nation".
